This is Luton Borough Council's reponse to the needs of excluded pupils. Secondary age students are offered a broad curriulum to examination level. The staff team have been selected because of their experience and understanding of the needs of these students.

Referral procedure:

Students are referred to the Unit through the local Authority referral procedure - via the Education Welfare Service or Social Services. Students can also be referred directly from their school. Initial contact should be made to the Education Office at Unity House.

How the Centre works

Students are collected and returned to their home addresses. They are offered at least one day per week - and in some cases they can have further days at the unit. The tution service also offers one-to-one home tuition.

Individual education programmes are created for each student after reference to information provided by schools or as a result of initial assessment procedures.

Time restrictions and the turnover of students mean that not all can be entered for exams - but it is our policy to do so if possible.
