Beato was a Venetian photographer who teamed up with James Robertson and photographed scenes from the Middle East, as well as the some war photographs. He covered the Opium War (1870), and later he went to Japan and built up a fine collection of records of Japanese customs and people, as well as some stunning landscape pictures.
The RPS has about 120 albumen pictures in two albums, and additional loose prints.
