CONSTABLE, William

b. 5 April 1783; d. 22 December 1861

William Constable began his career as an engineer and topographical artist, but in 1841 enbarked upon a new phase, becoming a pioneer photographer, opening a daguerreotype portrait studio in Brighton. The following year he became the first to photograph Prince Albert and other members of the royal court.
