DU HAURON, Louis Ducas

b. 1837; d. October 1920

Du Hauron was a French scientist who made a major contribution to the development of colour photography. In his book, "Les Couleurs en Photographie" (1869) he proposed the subtractive methods of colour photography. Unfortunately, his theories could not be put to the test at the time, because of the lack of suitable materials. However, it is this principle which is used in present-day colour photography.

He also patented, in 1891, the anaglyph method of stereoscopic photography.

In 1900 Du Hauron was awarded the Progress Medal of the Royal Photographic Society for his work in colour photography.
